1. Continuous Belt Support
The impact bed provides continuous support beneath the belt across the loading area. This helps reduce belt sag and limits excessive belt movement under heavy material loads.
2. High Impact Absorption
The combination of impact bars, rubber or polyurethane cushioning and a reinforced steel frame absorbs and distributes impact energy. This reduces the direct shock transferred to the conveyor belt, frame and other components.
3. Low-Friction UHMW-PE Surface
The top layer can be manufactured from UHMW-PE, providing a low-friction belt contact surface. This helps reduce belt wear and allows smooth belt movement through the loading zone. Trelleborg and Martin Engineering also use UHMW-based low-friction surfaces in impact bed applications.
4. Improved Belt Protection
By supporting the belt across the impact area, the system helps reduce the risk of belt puncture, gouging, tearing and excessive abrasion caused by heavy or sharp materials.
5. Reduced Spillage and Dust
A stable belt line provides better conditions for conveyor skirting systems to maintain an effective seal. This can help reduce material spillage and airborne dust around transfer points.
6. Modular and Replaceable Design
Individual Impact Bars can be replaced when worn, reducing maintenance time and avoiding unnecessary replacement of the complete frame. Some international systems use slide-out or track-mounted bar replacement concepts for easier servicing.
7. Suitable for Heavy-Duty Mining Conditions
The reinforced steel structure and energy-absorbing impact bars are suitable for demanding applications involving high material loads, large lump sizes and frequent impact.
