Huatao Group-Vibrating Screen Technology Solution and Service for Quarry & Mining Industry Since 2008.
Improve cake dryness by raising membrane squeeze pressure within plate limits, extending the squeeze-hold until filtrate flow stops, conditioning feed to higher solids with correct flocculation, selecting cloth with suitable air permeability, and adding an air-blow step. Consistent membrane and plate condition matters as much as the settings themselves.
1. Squeeze pressure. The membrane compresses the cake against the opposite cloth. Higher pressure displaces more interstitial water — until the cake becomes incompressible. Beyond that point, extra pressure stresses plates and bladders without improving dryness. See Filter Presses for equipment context.
2. Squeeze-hold time. Hold until filtrate flow essentially stops rather than running a fixed timer. Fine cakes need longer; coarse cakes reach flow cessation quickly. Standardize the setting per duty.
3. Feed conditioning. Dilute feed is the most common hidden cause of wet cake. Thin slurry forms a compressible, poorly draining cake. Raising feed solids and applying correct flocculation produces a thicker cake with open drainage paths — this is the job of the Thickeners and Flocculant Dosing Systems upstream.
4. Filter cloth selection. Cloth air permeability and weave must match the particle size distribution. Too tight and the cloth blinds; too open and fines pass through. Cloth condition matters as much as specification — inspect Filter Plates & Cloths regularly.
5. Air-blow displacement. After squeeze, an air blow pushes residual water from cake pores and cloth. It complements squeeze; it does not replace it.
6. Plate and bladder condition. Moisture that varies chamber to chamber is usually a damaged bladder or a sealing fault, not chemistry. Log moisture per chamber to locate the fault quickly.
| Item | Membrane Press | Chamber Press |
|---|---|---|
| Cake dryness | Higher | Lower |
| Initial cost | Higher | Lower |
| Maintenance | Bladder inspection | Simpler |
| Best application | Fine concentrates | Coarse solids |
Size the press at your actual feed solids, not peak throughput. Confirm membrane plates are rated for the required squeeze pressure and match cloth permeability to your particle size distribution. Review the full dewatering train before fixing capacity — see Dewatering and Filter Plates & Cloths.
Ask suppliers: Can you manufacture to drawings? Can you provide material reports? Can you support OEM replacement? Do you have export experience? Can you give wear-life recommendations for this duty? The same verification logic is set out in Which Manufacturer Offers High-Quality Polyurethane Tufflex Wire Screens for Mining?.
Daily: filtrate clarity, squeeze pressure gauge, visible leakage. Weekly: cloth tears and blinding, gasket condition. Monthly: bladder pressure test, plate flatness sample. Replace cloths on measured permeability loss, membranes on pressure-hold failure.
Cake dryness is a system result: pressure, time, feed, cloth and plate condition tuned together and verified by moisture testing. HUATAO supplies filtration wear components and mining wear parts for these duties — browse Products or the Filtration process hub.
