Huatao Group-Vibrating Screen Technology Solution and Service for Quarry & Mining Industry Since 2008.
Self-cleaning screen mesh uses flexible wires that move independently during screen vibration. Unlike rigid woven wire cloth, this movement dislodges near-size and moist particles that would otherwise remain trapped in the apertures. The result is a screen surface that maintains effective open area during operation rather than progressively blinding. WIRED & STEEL SCREEN MESH
Diamond — balanced screening accuracy, anti-pegging performance, open area, and durability. The default for general mining and aggregate screening.
Triangle — flexible wire arrangement for fine, wet, sticky, or near-size material where blinding is the primary constraint.
Harp — parallel wires creating very high open area. For dry, free-flowing feed where throughput and rapid fines removal matter most.
Wave — undulating wires creating a dynamic screening surface. For high-capacity aggregate screening with efficient fines passage.
The correct first question is not "what aperture do I need?" It is "what is causing my current screening problem?"
Wet or sticky fines blocking the deck → greater wire movement → Triangle.
Near-size particles lodging in apertures → Diamond or Triangle.
Insufficient capacity on dry feed → Harp or Wave.
Need both sizing accuracy and anti-blinding → Diamond.
| Screening Problem | Recommended Pattern |
|---|---|
| General mining and aggregate | Diamond |
| Fine or sticky material | Triangle |
| Near-size particle pegging | Diamond / Triangle |
| High open area requirement | Harp |
| High-throughput screening | Harp / Wave |
| Efficient fines removal | Harp / Wave |
| Balanced sizing and anti-blinding | Diamond |
These are starting points. Final selection follows actual feed conditions and machine parameters.
| Criterion | Diamond | Triangle | Harp | Wave |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Screening accuracy | High | High | Medium | Medium |
| Anti-pegging | High | Very high | Medium | Medium |
| Anti-blinding | High | Very high | Medium | High |
| Open area | Medium | Medium | Very high | High |
| Capacity | Medium | Medium | Very high | High |
Evaluate on total screening cost ÷ tonnes processed. Include screen replacement, maintenance labour, cleaning downtime, and lost production. A cheaper screen that blinds weekly is the most expensive option on site.
A correctly selected pattern still performs poorly if tensioning, support, panel dimensions, or installation method do not match the VIBRATING SCREEN. Pattern selection without installation fit is a wasted exercise.
| Problem | Possible Cause | Recommended Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Blinding | Wet sticky feed, wrong pattern | Switch to Triangle |
| Pegging | Near-size particles | Switch to Diamond or Triangle |
| Low capacity | Insufficient open area | Switch to Harp or Wave |
| Short screen life | Wire diameter or grade too light | Re-specify wire and steel grade |
| Poor fitment | Incorrect tensioning or hooks | Supply deck drawing or OEM number |
Customer Type: Aggregate quarry
Ore Type: Crushed limestone with clay content
Operating Conditions: Wet feed, high near-size fraction
Problem: Woven wire mesh pegged heavily; frequent manual cleaning; inconsistent gradation.
Solution: Switched to Triangle self-cleaning mesh at the same nominal aperture with revised tensioning.
Result: Manual cleaning interventions reduced by approximately 50%; gradation consistency improved.
What is the difference between the four patterns?
Opening geometry and wire configuration. Diamond is balanced, Triangle handles wet/sticky, Harp maximises open area, Wave provides high-capacity dynamic screening.
Which is best for wet material?
Triangle, generally. Diamond where anti-pegging and sizing control are both required.
Which for near-size pegging?
Diamond or Triangle — both provide greater independent wire movement.
When should I choose Harp or Wave?
Harp for dry free-flowing feed with high open area demand. Wave for high-capacity aggregate screening.
How do I calculate real cost?
Total screening cost ÷ tonnes processed, including replacement, labour, downtime, and lost production.
Can it be used on any screen?
Most vibrating screens, but tensioning, hooks, panel dimensions, and support must match.
How long does it last?
Depends on wire diameter, steel grade, abrasiveness, impact, and support. Build a wear trend.
What information does HUATAO need?
Material, moisture, clay content, particle size and shape, capacity, cut size, abrasiveness, impact, screen model, panel dimensions, installation requirements.
There is no single self-cleaning screen type ideal for every application. Diamond is balanced for general duty. Triangle suits fine, sticky, wet, or near-size material. Harp suits dry free-flowing duty with high open area demand. Wave suits high-capacity screening with efficient fines passage.
Start with the actual screening problem, not the aperture dimension.
