What Is a Mining Thickener?
A mining thickener separates suspended solid particles from liquid through gravity settling. Feed slurry enters the thickener, while heavier mineral particles gradually settle toward the bottom and form a concentrated underflow. At the same time, clarified water rises to the upper section and is discharged as overflow.
The thickened underflow can then be pumped to filtration, tailings storage, backfill or other downstream processes. The recovered overflow water can often be returned to the processing circuit, helping reduce fresh-water consumption.

Modern mineral processing plants increasingly focus on water recovery. A high-efficiency thickener can increase underflow concentration while producing relatively clear overflow water for recycling.
