Product Information
The Self-Cleaning Cross Belt Electromagnetic Separator is an automatic magnetic separation system designed to continuously remove ferrous contaminants from materials traveling on conveyor belts.
Commonly referred to as a Cross Belt Magnet, Suspended Magnetic Separator, Conveyor Magnetic Separator, or Self-Cleaning Overband Magnet, the unit is suspended above the main conveyor and positioned across the direction of material flow.
As material passes beneath the separator, the electromagnetic field attracts ferrous contaminants from the conveyor burden. The self-cleaning belt then transports the captured metal sideways beyond the magnetic field, where it is automatically discharged into a collection chute or bin.
This continuous separation process makes the system ideal for mining, aggregates, recycling, coal, cement, wood processing, biomass and other bulk material handling industries.
How Does a Cross Belt Magnet Work?
The separator is normally installed perpendicular to the main conveyor belt.
When bulk material enters the magnetic field, ferrous objects such as bolts, nails, steel wire, rebar, tools and machinery fragments are attracted upward toward the magnet.
A heavy-duty cleaning belt continuously travels around the magnetic assembly. Cleats on the belt transport captured metal toward the side of the conveyor.
Once the metal moves beyond the effective magnetic field, it is automatically discharged.
This design enables continuous tramp iron removal without stopping the main conveyor.
